New York artist Devin Kyle Cuthbertson is at it again! This trailer for the upcoming film “Daryl Michael Basquiat” looks like it gonna be pretty cool. Odd as fuck. But cool. Props to Devin. Hey, That guy looks like Jean-Michael Basquiat a little bit doesn’t he? Nope.

Oh yeah and props to iLikeZach for shooting and editing the dagum thing as well. All the cool kids had their artwork on display in this awesome show curated by Hennessy Youngman at the Family Business Gallery in Chelsea. iLikeZach, a modest observer and cool points holder in his own right, decided to talk about himself in the third person and film some of the awesomeness. The actual name of the show is “It’s a small, small world” by the way but I didn’t know that till I saw this other dude’s youtube video about it. Whatever. Since it was so crowded, I’m pretty happy that I got a chance to show some of the footage from inside the gallery itself as well as an intimate discussion about Tommy Coleman’s piece in particular. I caught a lot of Spank Rock performing out front as well. It was pretty magical for an art show opening. I see vaginas in the sky, folks. Vaginas in the sky… ILikeZach is the illest dude on the planet Earth!

Now, to be real, we kinda lost sight of homegirl for a hot minute (she had a kid, she did her for a minute), but if she ever had any doubters wondering whether or not she was gonna make a high-powered return to the upper echelons of awesomeness, then blow that echelon up and start a new, even higher playing field to bump dope music on…. Soulebrity is one of the hardest working musicians I’ve ever listened to. It’s no wonder that he would release NY Giants Motto 2012 literally within minutes of their hard-earned victory over the Green Bay Packers. I think I can use one of his quotes to try to describe the attitude on this track: “fuck what all them hater say! Can’t see us ’cause the trophy in the way. G-MEN Whatup!”. What happens when an artist’s private narratives enter the conscious realm of others, when myths become public and are presented as “Artwork”, perhaps even displayed at a gallery show?

“LIKE ME NOW” is the primal howl of artistic expression. This show is an attempt to demonstrate the fundamental creative moment living in Art, simultaneously demanding and pleading for its survival among the ranks of the beautiful. We will not celebrate the brushstroke, the chromatic scheme, or the provenance of individual pieces here. Manuel Silva and SCRiBE The Verbalist have produced something really amazing with “Summer in NYC Pt II”. It’s a neo-nostalgic followup to Silva’s part 1 record of the same name, and can be found on his recently released mixtape, “The Dopeness Pt II”.

Manuel Silva here demonstrates a signature integrity of content, whimsically painting the picture of a New York Summer with enough brutal honesty to exclaim in the first verse, “It must be said, summertime is just ’bout lies and sex”. “Urbanfilmmaka”, Elijah White, provides the videotape, as it were, as director of the music video project. He competently depicts Manuel Silva with a grand smile on his face, sharing his complex love of the “hot city streets mid-July”. I love that graffiti background!

The recent buzz about this video seems to have taken special care to tip its cap to the track’s feature verse provided by Bronx wordsmith, SCRiBE The Verbalist. His animated tale of “roof-top barbecues and three-month love” celebrates the ephemeral NYC summer excitement chase, when the daylight hours seem to stretch to the will of its pleasure-seeking youth. True to form, SCRiBE once again captures an experience indigenous to New York life; young hip-hop lovers left behind in New York during the annual exodus of the city’s wealth to the Hamptons, the far corners of the jet-setter globe or, dare I say it, the Jersey Shore.
